The UPPER Case Letters of the Alphabone Orchestra (Online Event)

John Gerdy

June 12 - 30th, 2020

In his most recent book, The Alphabone Orchestra: A Magically Musical Journey Through the Alphabet, Dr. John Gerdy delved into the world of children’s literature and is the basis for this exhibit. In 2018, John began taking painting lessons from Lancaster artist, Loryn Spangler-Jones. These lessons lead to the creation of a series of radiant, kaleidoscopic illustrations depicting each of the 26 UPPER case letters of the alphabet (plus the question mark and the exclamation point) as a musical, horn-like instrument. Each letter is “presented” and “played” by the zany, triangle headed, Dr. Dude B. Fonky, a “World Famous Musicologist”. These paintings are whimsical, fun, fonky and brilliantly colored and will capture the imagination of children of all ages.

Paintings are all 11” x 14” acrylic on canvas and are for sale in our online store.

Profits from the sale of these pieces will be donated to the Lancaster County Community Foundation/ United Way of Lancaster County, PA “Lancaster Cares Covid-19 Fund.

And as a “Thank You” to all who purchase a painting, a signed copy of John’s book “AlphaBone Orchestra”, will be included as a gift.
