E tenebris in lucem

Nicole Gochnaur

October 5 - 27th, 2018
Opening Reception: 10/05/2018, 5p-9p

Gochnaur’s newest body of work manifests from the constant tension of being in an aggressive, external world. The outermost surface is resolution to secret layers of distress. As a high-functioning introvert, turning inward is a means of survival –a preferred place to be.

‘The frequent, short sweet deaths of solitude allow me to live for centuries.’

-Nicole Gochnaur

About the Artist

Emerging mixed media artist, Nicole Gochnaur, debuts a solo gallery presentation of her current body of work. Most recently, she has been the recipient of the Judge’s Award in the 2018 Lititz Outdoor Fine Art Show. Media used include vintage periodicals, papers, acrylic, oil, ink and German glass shards. Heavy influences include symbolistic painter, Gustav Klimt as well as principles of the Pre-Raphaelite, Abstract Expressionism and Dadaism movements and in particular Frank Stella, Jackson Pollack and Sophie Taeber-Arp.

Having a BFA from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania with a communication design major and a natural science illustration minor, Nicole has 20+ years of experience as a professional graphic designer/illustrator in the advertising industry. She was raised along farms, fields and woods in Lititz, PA. After college graduation and craving urban experience, she lived in metro Atlanta for 9 years. Back to the countryside, she now resides in a semi-primitive state via a 1940-era cottage (no dishwasher is good for the soul) in Lancaster county.
