Flock Together

Loryn Spangler-Jones

March 2 - 31st, 2018
Opening Reception: 03/02/2018, 5p-9p

Inspired by recent events both locally and nationally and as a long time small human ambassador of the arts we bring you ‘Flock Together’-a whimsical and colorful approach to making a sustainable and equitable impact within the greater arts community.

Art has often been and continues to be a necessary vehicle for social change and has the power to give voice to the socially and/or politically disenfranchised. Art education in our schools is absolutely crucial if we want to continue to create positive and impactful change. Through the arts we teach our youth and future leaders acceptance and compassion, expose them to different cultures and ideologies, and offer them vital and positive avenues for self- expression. The rich arts in education residencies South Central PaARTners offer also incorporate the arts into the regular curriculum, and research has shown that this kind of experience improves educational achievement across all academic disciplines by teaching creative problem solving and activating the imagination. Not to mention the vital and positive vehicles the arts offer kids for self-expression and empowerment.

We are proud to be partnering with South Central Paartners in an effort to impact the future of the arts in our community. South Central PaARTners is hosted at Millersville University and funded through an annual grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. Their mission is to improve the education, well-being, and outcomes for children and adults they serve by delivering outstanding arts in education programming to K-12 schools, senior centers, and other non-profits in four counties (Lancaster, Lebanon, Berks, and NW Chester Counties). In addition, they support the arts and the local economy by making it viable for professional working artists to thrive here, offering our rostered artists generous stipends and high-quality training opportunities.

Flock Together is the first of a 6 series campaign to raise enough money to pay 6 different Artist in Residency positions through South Central PaARTners. Each 6x6in original painting is $200 and we are committed to donating 50% of every painting sold directly to South Central PaARTNers. Our goal is to sell all 26 paintings in this first series. This will afford one FULL Artist in Residency program.

Sometimes adversity invites us to answer the question: who am I? With gratitude, We accept the opportunity to learn, grow and share my truths, as well as my questions, with our beautiful, thriving arts community.  It is no longer enough to simply make art. To promote social change and continue to ask important questions that challenge the status quo and inspire people in thought, word and action, we must boldly and fearlessly take a stand. Let us all Flock Together and Stand for Art, our collective and most articulate voice.
