a tale of beasts

Jennifer VonStein

May 5 - 27th, 2017
Opening Reception: 05/05/2017, 5p-9p

In this brand new collection, Jennifer Von Stein creates a modern bestiary, a collection of “animal people.” Using lush colors and texture, her portraits explore zoomorphism as a pictorial device. Drawing on influences as wide as Julie Heffernan, Kehinde Wiley, Frida Kahlo, classic nursery rhymes and contemporary pop culture, her acrylic paintings have a subtle narrative thread that is open to interpretation.

About the Artist

Lancaster County local artist, Jennifer VonStein is a graduate of Loyola University with a B.A. of Fine Arts. Influenced by artists as varied as Monet, Cornell, Wyeth, Johns, Heffernan and Helwein, VonStein’s work develops along two distinct paths. Her paintings and collages may seem disparate, they are, in fact, stories with a subtle narrative thread; connected to each other in the way that an experience, and the memory of that experience, are related, but not the same.

Ten year Resident Artist and lead educator for Chroma Inc., VonStein conducts national workshops and demonstrations. Her paintings are found in private collections around the globe.
